1. Vocabulary (Le lexique)

  • Types of celebrations: Religious festivals (Eid, Christmas), National holidays (Independence Day), Personal events (Weddings, Birthdays, Graduations).
  • Key nouns: Tradition, custom, ritual, ceremony, parade, feast, fireworks, guest, host, decoration, anniversary.
  • Key verbs: To celebrate, to commemorate (commémorer), to honor (honorer), to observe (respecter une tradition), to organize, to attend (assister à).
  • Adjectives: Festive, traditional, joyful, annual, crowded, spectacular.

    • Example: "We organized a big party and ate traditional food."
    • Example: "The music was playing when the guests arrived."
  • While vs When:
    • While + Past Continuous (action longue).
    • When + Past Simple (action courte/interruption).

3. Functions (Les fonctions de communication)

  • Describing an event: "The celebration took place in..." / "The atmosphere was..."
  • Talking about traditions: "It is a custom to..." / "People usually wear..."

  2. Body (Le corps):
    • Les préparatifs (decorations, food).
    • Les activités (parades, music, rituals).
    • Les vêtements traditionnels.
  3. Conclusion: Tes sentiments (How you felt: happy, excited, proud).

Utilisation des connecteurs chronologiques:

  • First, Then, After that, Finally.

Exemples corrigés

Exemple 1 (Grammaire) : Complétez : "While we ________ (dance), the fireworks ________ (start)."

  • Corrigé: "While we were dancing, the fireworks started."

  • Corrigé: A parade.

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Confondre le nom et le verbe : Ne dites pas "We had a great celebrate" $\rightarrow$ Dites "We had a great celebration".
  • Oublier le "-ed" au Past Simple : Ne dites pas "Yesterday, I celebrate my birthday" $\rightarrow$ Dites "Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday".
  • Mauvais usage de "While" : Ne dites pas "While the music started" $\rightarrow$ Dites "When the music started" ou "While the music was playing".

Chno lferq bin "celebrate" w "celebration"?

C'est une question de nature grammaticale :

  1. Celebrate est un verbe (l'action).

Kifach nsta3mel "while" w "when" f l'anglais bach n3awed chi haja tra?

  1. While + Past Continuous (was/were + -ing) : On l'utilise pour une action qui durait (le décor).
    • Exemple: "While I was eating..." (Pendant que je mangeais...).

What is the difference between a "festival" and a "ceremony"?
  1. A festival is usually a large public event, often lasting several days, with music, food, and many people (e.g., a music festival or a religious festival).

Mostly, yes, but there is a small nuance:

💡 À retenir : Traditions are big/old; customs are specific behaviors.

  1. To prepare/cook: "My mother prepared a traditional meal."
  2. To serve: "They served delicious sweets."
