📘 Fiche de cours

L'essentiel du cours

Ce chapitre porte sur la manière d'exprimer nos goûts, nos activités de détente et l'importance du temps libre.

1. Vocabulary (Le lexique)

  • Types of activities:
    • Indoor activities: Reading, playing video games, watching movies, cooking, board games.
    • Outdoor activities: Hiking, cycling, gardening, photography, traveling.
    • Arts & Culture: Playing an instrument, painting, visiting museums, going to the theater.
    • Sports: Team sports (football, basketball) vs. Individual sports (swimming, tennis).
  • Adjectives to describe activities:
    • Positive: Relaxing, exciting, entertaining, rewarding, fun, creative.
    • Negative: Boring, tiring, stressful, time-consuming.

2. Grammar (La grammaire)

  • Verbs of preference + Gerund ($Verb + \text{-ing}$): Pour exprimer un goût, on utilise souvent la forme en $-ing$ après certains verbes : $$ \text{Subject} + \text{Verb of preference} + \text{Verb-ing} $$ Exemples: I enjoy reading, She hates waiting, They love playing football. (Note : Certains verbes comme "like", "love", "hate" acceptent aussi l'infinitif avec "to", mais le gérondif est très fréquent pour parler de l'activité en général).

  • Adverbs of Frequency (Les adverbes de fréquence): Pour dire à quelle fréquence on pratique un loisir : $$ \text{Subject} + \text{Adverb} + \text{Verb} $$ Exemples: I always listen to music; I never go to the cinema alone.

Méthodes à maîtriser

1. Décrire un loisir (Describing a hobby): Pour faire une bonne description, utilisez la structure suivante :

  1. What: Nom de l'activité.
  2. When/How often: Fréquence (once a week, every weekend).
  3. Where: Lieu (at home, in the park, at the club).
  4. Why: Raison/Sentiment (because it is relaxing/exciting).

2. Exprimer une opinion sur les loisirs: Utilisez des structures comme :

  • "In my opinion, playing sports is essential for health."
  • "I believe that spending time on hobbies helps reduce stress."

Exemples corrigés

Exemple 1 (Grammaire) : Consigne : Transformez la phrase en utilisant le gérondif. "I like to watch documentaries." $\rightarrow$ "I like watching documentaries."

Exemple 2 (Vocabulaire/Expression) : Consigne : Complétez avec le mot correct : "hiking" ou "reading". "When I am in the mountains, I love ___________." Réponse : "When I am in the mountains, I love hiking."

Erreurs fréquentes

  • L'oubli du $-ing$ : Dire "I enjoy play football" au lieu de "I enjoy playing football".
  • La confusion de sens : Utiliser "boring" (ennuyeux) au lieu de "bored" (ennuyé).
    • Correct: "The movie is boring." (Le film est ennuyeux).
    • Correct: "I am bored." (Je m'ennuie).
  • L'ordre de l'adverbe : Dire "I go always to the cinema" au lieu de "I always go to the cinema".
