📘 Fiche de cours

L'essentiel du cours

Le chapitre Citizenship (La citoyenneté) porte sur la relation entre l'individu et la société/l'État. Il se divise en trois piliers :

  1. Rights (Les droits) : Ce que le citoyen est autorisé à faire ou à recevoir de l'État (ex: freedom of speech, right to education, right to vote).

  • Citizen: Citoyen.
  • Civic duties: Devoirs civiques.
  • To participate/To engage: Participer/S'engager.
  • Community service: Service communautaire.
  • Social responsibility: Responsabilité sociale.
  • Democracy: Démocratie.

Méthodes à maîtriser

  1. Exprimer l'obligation et la nécessité (Modals of obligation) :
    • Must : Obligation forte, souvent personnelle ou morale ($Subject + must + verb$).
    • Have to : Obligation imposée par une règle extérieure ou la loi ($Subject + have/has\ to + verb$).
    • Should : Conseil ou recommandation ($Subject + should + verb$).
  2. Structure d'un essai (Writing) :
    • Introduction : Définir le sujet (ex: Citizenship is a fundamental concept...).
    • Body paragraphs : Développer les idées (ex: Firstly, being a citizen means... Secondly, volunteering helps...).
    • Conclusion : Résumer et donner une opinion finale.

Exemples corrigés

Exercice de transformation :

  • Question : It is necessary for citizens to respect the law. (Use must)
  • Réponse : Citizens must respect the law.

Exercice de vocabulaire :

  • Question : An organization that works for social causes without seeking profit is a/an...
  • Réponse : NGO (Non-Governmental Organization).

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Confondre Rights et Duties : Ne dites pas "My duty is to vote" (c'est un droit/devoir civique) mais "My right is to vote".
  • Erreur de modal : Utiliser "must" pour un simple conseil. Utilisez "should" pour conseiller.
  • Oubli du "to" : Dire "I have respect the law" au lieu de "I have to respect the law".
